The following entry is in regard to a anti-Semitic letter which was published in the small town where I live. I wrote an article with facts I have researched over years of Supporting Israel. It is in the form of a letter of response to the following published message:
published in the SV Herald yesterday:
OUR READERS’ VIEWS: The problem is Israel
c Mon, 07/28/2014 – 11:09pm
To the Editor:
Israel is a monster that should never have been allowed to displace Palestinians after WWII. Sympathy beat out good sense and the Palestinians are paying the price for that lapse. The United States has backed Israel, without question and sends Israel money every year along with arms to assist in their murderous activities. It’s time to reassess this relationship and Isolate Israel.
You may or may not see my response published, I am sort of over it at this point. Let me tell you, I have been working on this for hours. I had it wonderful perfect and great and boom, computer turned off. I lay down, closed my eyes and prayed: God I am not angry or upset at You…I know you have all power and that if this is from You I won’t have it in me to go on. If its from the evil one, You wont let me be till I finish it. So here I am…sharing it with you. May you be blessed by it! Goodnight?
Letter to the Editor:
To whom it may concern, I am writing today in response to a short but very dangerous letter to the editor that was published in the Herald regarding “Israel”. We are so very blessed in this nation to have the freedoms we currently retain, one of which is the freedom of speech. It seems as though slowly but surely these freedoms are being stripped from us either overtly or otherwise so I do not personally condemn the writer of the letter nor do I condemn the paper for publishing it. This is why I am sure after reviewing this response you will consider having it published as well. I would like to begin by attempting to define a term that was used in the letter. The writer accused Israel of “murderous activities”. Let us take a minute and consider some of the facts about Israel’s ‘neighbors’.
Syria- Small protests started on 28 January 2011 and swiftly became violent, this was considered the beginning of the Syrian uprising. Hezbollah entered the war in support of the Syrian army. In the east, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), a jihadist militant group which was initially linked to Al-Qaeda in Iraq, made rapid military gains in both Syria and Iraq, turning against the rebels. According to the United Nations, the death toll surpassed 100,000 in June 2013, and reached 120,000 by September 2013. In addition, tens of thousands of protesters, students, liberal activists and human rights advocates have been imprisoned and there are reports of widespread torture and terror in state prisons. While fighting between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza has gotten far more attention in recent days, the death toll in Syria has been higher.
Between July 16 and July 25, 1,600 people were killed, and the bloodshed has continued at that pace. On Sunday,July 27th, 180 people were killed.
Human Right’s dot Gov. issued this statement: In 2013, the world witnessed the largest displacement of religious communities in recent memory. In almost every corner of the globe, millions of Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and others representing a range of faiths were forced from their homes on account of their religious beliefs. Out of fear or by force, entire neighborhoods are emptying of residents. Communities are disappearing from their traditional and historic homes and dispersing across the geographic map. In conflict zones, in particular, this mass displacement has become a norm. In Syria, as in much of the Middle East, the Christian presence is becoming a shadow of its former self. After three years of civil war, hundreds of thousands fled the country desperate to escape the ongoing violence perpetrated by the government and extremist groups alike. In the city of Homs the number of Christians dwindled to as few as 1,000 from approximately 160,000 prior to the conflict.
I have to say the government article above is a snipet of the mild language used in reports.
Christians in Syria have been tortured, raped, shot and crucified and it continues with their current displacement which the writer of the anti-Israel letter was quick to accuse Israel of doing to the so called Palestinians.
Let us talk about that for a moment. Up until the 1967 war, the Arabs living in Israel did not even call themselves Palestinians — twenty years after the founding of the modern state of Israel. The name Palestine came from the Romans who destroyed the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD. To humiliate the Jews, the Romans renamed the land Palestine after their mortal enemies, the Philistines. The modern land of Palestine was given that name by the British when they took control over from the crumbling Ottoman Empire. In British Palestine, both Jews and Arabs were Palestinians.
I would like to continue with the topic of displacement,in regard to the displacement of Jews in Gaza:
A brief period of calm followed the Oslo agreements as Israel agreed to withdraw from parts of the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Authority assumed control over about 80 percent of the area, but an escalation of violence, especially after September 2000, led Israel to impose stricter measures on Palestinians in the area, and to engage in frequent military operations to prevent terrorist attacks against soldiers and Jews living in the Gaza settlements as well as infiltration’s to attack targets inside Israel. In the process of peace, on August 17, 2005, Israel began to evacuate all the Jews from Gaza. A total of 1,700 families were uprooted at a cost of nearly $900 million. This includes 166 Israeli farmers who produce $120 million in flowers and produce. Approximately 15 percent of Israel’s agricultural exports originate in Gaza, including 60 percent of its cherry tomato and herb exports. Israel would also lose 70 percent of all its organic produce, which also is grown in Gaza.
The fruits of the Arab occupation of Gaza before the war broke out were that the greenhouses once flourishing had been photographed as dry, barren arms bunkers.
I am assuming the anti-Israel letter writers reference to “sympathy” after WWII was referring to the logical restoration of some of the remaining 100,000 displaced European Jews post Holocaust. The sorry, insufficient and condescending usage of the word “sympathy” in connection with the 11 million lives, people… Jehovah’s witnesses, homosexuals, handicapped persons, gypsies and Jews who were targeted and murdered in WWII during the Holocaust. 6 million Jewish people were murdered, 1.1 million of them were children.
Furthermore, there has been a Jewish presence in the city of Jerusalem over the centuries, despite the massacres and deprivation brought about by its ruling powers and invading armies. The only times Jews did not live in the city were in the period immediately after the Roman destruction and for a short time during the Crusades, which was also the only period when Jerusalem was a capital city for a non-Jewish group: from 1099 with the founding of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. The city has always been the designated national capital of the Jews. It was home to the Jewish kings, the Sanhedrin and the High Priests. In 1948 it automatically became the capital of the State of Israel.
By contrast, Jerusalem was never the capital city of any of its Muslim rulers. It was not the capital for the Umayyad, Abbasid or Fatamid caliphates that ruled for 400 years. Nor was it the capital for the Mamluks (1260-1516), Ottomans (1516-1917) or the Jordanians who ruled East Jerusalem. It is interesting to note that the Palestinian Liberation Organisation’s (PLO’s) founding document, the Palestinian National Covenant of 1964, does not mention Jerusalem even once. After the atrocities of the Holocaust the Jewish people who survived had no where to turn, no one would take them in. The only reasonable option was that they return home. To the Holy Land.
The anti-Israel letter writer made the statement “Israel is a monster” I would like to present a few facts to allow the readers to form their own opinions and definitions of “monster”. Facts: July 24, 2014- The Islamic State group has ordered females in its territory in Iraq to undergo female circumcision, the UN’s resident and humanitarian coordinator in Iraq has said. On Thursday the decree was issued to residents between 11 and 46 years old living in and around the city of Mosul. The decree would potentially affect four million women and girls.
Twenty-six women were slain by relatives in the West Bank and Gaza in 2013, twice as many as the year before The rise stems from ongoing leniency for those killing in the name of “family honor” and social acceptance of violence against women.
July 23, 2014- In their effort to avoid detection by the Israeli military, Hamas militants in Gaza have employed tactics including traveling in ambulances, hiding in hospitals, dressing up in Israeli army uniforms, concealing rockets in United Nations schools, concealing tunnel entrances near mosques and using animals for suicide missions. (Realistic outrage would not be toward wartime Israel hitting a hospital or school…but at the toward the terrorists who have repeatedly hidden themselves in populated areas specifically to force Israel’s hand with no regard for the lives that would be lost.)
This year Christians in middle eastern lands have been burned alive, executed, hung, tortured, crucified by Islamist’s.
Monsters are people who mutilate their daughters, monsters are people who hide behind civilians and draw fire into populated areas, monsters are people who torture and murder people because of the hatred and intolerance for anyone who believes different from what they have been taught.
Monsters are people who make statements such as these:
“The Jews are the most despicable and contemptible nation to crawl upon the face of the Earth, because they have displayed hostility to Allah. Allah will kill the Jews in the hell of the world to come, just like they killed the believers in the hell of this world.” Sermon delivered by ‘Atallah Abu Al-Subh, former Hamas minister of culture;
“This is Islam, that was ahead of its time with regards to human rights in the treatment of prisoners, but our nation was tested by the cancerous lump, that is the Jews, in the heart of the Arab nation… Be certain that America is on its way to utter destruction, America is wallowing [in blood] today in Iraq and Afghanistan, America is defeated and Israel is defeated, and was defeated in Lebanon and Palestine… Make us victorious over the community of infidels… Allah, take the Jews and their allies, Allah, take the Americans and their allies… Allah, annihilate them completely and do not leave anyone of them.” Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Bahar, acting Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, April 20, 2007.
Can we talk about some of the freedoms Arabs enjoyed in Israel which they could never have in the surrounding areas which will not house them?: Arabs in Israel have equal voting rights; in fact, it is one of the few places in the Middle East where Arab women may vote. Arabs in 2011 held 14 seats in the 120-seat Knesset. Israeli Arabs have also held various government posts. Arabic, like Hebrew, is an official language in Israel. More than 300,000 Arab children attend Israeli schools. At the time of Israel’s founding, there was one Arab high school in the country. Today, there are hundreds of Arab schools. The sole legal distinction between Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel is that the latter are not required to serve in the Israeli army. This is to spare Arab citizens the need to take up arms against their brethren.
The writer of the anti-Israel letter spoke about the “reassessment of the relationship” with Israel. Let’s do that, let us consider the contributions Israel has given to the entire world. I wonder if this writer wrote the entry on a computer or uses a cel phone (usb drive, laser keyboard, microprocessor- all Israeli inventions), I wonder if the writer has any of these strong emotions and sentiments regarding the aide Israel has provided the world in times of trouble (Israel, a first response team after the devastating Haiti earthquake; decades of humanitarian assistance and capacity building in Africa; emergency medical aid and transfers into Gaza; Israel has a heightened sense of humanitarian awareness and responsibility. With aid teams poised to respond in the wake of natural or man-made disasters anywhere in the world, Israel’s 200-strong relief team was the first on the scene in January 2010 after the earthquake hit Haiti. Israel helped save thousands of lives. In March 2011 following the devastating earthquakes in Japan, Israel was one of the first countries to send aid according to the needs and request of the Japanese government; Israeli efforts also include relief to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and first response aid in the wake of the 2004 tsunami with 60 tons of international aid to Indonesia, and 82 tons of relief to Sri Lanka alone; After the 2005 earthquake in Kashmir, the Israeli Flying Aid group sent a mission to give supplies and shelter for thousands of families. In 2009, Israel medical teams provided relief to storm victims in the Philippines and food aid a year earlier to the Congo;Since 1959, Israeli doctors have been offering eye camps to treat ocular diseases to people throughout the developing world; In 1970 Israel started opening its doors to the world’s refugees. It has saved non-Jewish people in distress and those seeking refuge from countries such as Lebanon, Egypt, Iran, Vietnam, Bosnia, Kosovo, Eritrea and Sudan;Since 1995 Israeli doctors acting through Save a Child’s Heart have been giving kids from around the world, including from the Palestinian Authority (PA), Iraq, Jordan and other Arab nations free life-saving heart operations. Since the organization first started 2,300 children have been treated, and almost half are from the PA, Jordan and Iraq.)
The writer of the anti-Israel letter mentioned the money the U.S. gives to Israel. As ally’s of Israel I think it is far more questionable that our government has funded Hamas with 87 million dollars. Arabs won’t tolerate a Jewish presence in the Muslim Middle East. The Jews offer to negotiate peace but the Arabs are really just negotiating the end of Israel.Since Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, terrorists have fired more than 11,000 rockets into Israel. Hamas started the conflict on July 8 with about 10,000 rockets. Since then, the militants have fired more than 2,600 rockets and mortars toward Israel and Israeli forces have destroyed about 3,000.
I fear for a world where we would seek to isolate Israel or the Jewish people again. I fear for humanity if we ignore the existence of growing antisemitism even in a small town.
I admire the Herald for posting the anti-Israel letter despite its overt nature. I hope my response will be equally considered.

After a battle to get it published it finally was printed Monday August 18, 2014
The editor printed my personal email address, I believe on purpose. Keep me in your prayers.
He has since taken off the personal email information from the online paper.
Baruch Attah ADONAI Eloheinu Melech Ha Olam, for You are the one who made bitter the venom of lies from that letter in my soul so that I was sick because of her hatred of Your people and Your Land, you woke me in the night to write in response, you challenged me to see if I would be faithful and re write the entire thing after the man made computer failed me, and you allowed me to strive to get it out there. You allowed for it to be seen and known, I pray You will be blessed by the efforts and the life which You alone planted and nourish within me. YOU never fail!
