A Journey Into Exodus: Part 3; For His Children, To The Oppressors, So the World Will Know
Psalm 8; 2 HASHEM, our Master, how mighty is Your Name throughout the earth, [You] Who places Your majesty on the heavens. 3 Out of the mouths of babes and suckling’s You have established strength, because of Your enemies, to silence foe and avenger. 4 When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars that You have set in place, [I think,] 5 “What is frail man that You should remember him, and the son of mortal man that You should be mindful of him?” 6 Yet, You have make him but slightly less than the angels, and crowned him with a soul and splendor. 7 You give him dominion over Your handiwork, You placed everything under his feet: 8 sheep and cattle, all of them, even the beasts of the field; 9 the birds of the sky and the fish of the sea; for [man] even traverses the lanes of the sea. 10 HASHEM, our Master, how mighty is Your Name throughout the earth!
Exodus 8;5 Moses said to Pharaoh, “Glorify yourself over me- for when should I entreat for you, for your servants and for your people, to excise the frogs from you and from your houses? Only in the River shall they remain.” 6 And he said, “For tomorrow.” He said, “As you say- so that you will know that there is none like HASHEM, our God.”
–In His work and wonders in Egypt, there are three categories of ‘peoples’ that the Lord wishes to see, hear about, and learn of His might. These three groups will come to understand that there is One God with strength and glory beyond the myths…the dead stone, wood and metal images which have no power, no heart. They will know by the wonders and the signs God will place in Egypt, each plague toppling the supposed domination of the Egyptian false gods and manifesting that every element of creation from weather to nature…from the tiniest gnat to the roaring thunder are all subordinate and subservient to the King and Master of the universe.
Exodus 9; 29 Moses said to him, “When I leave the city I shall spread out my hands to HASHEM; the thunder will cease and the hail will no longer be, so that you shall know that the earth is HASHEM’s. And as for you and your servants, I know that you are not yet afraid of HASHEM, God.”
35 Pharaoh’s heart became strong and he did not send out the Children of Israel, as HASHEM had spoken through Moses.
–One of these groups is Egypt, Pharaoh and his people. God has destroyed nearly all of their false gods, the Pesach offering and the death of the firstborn plague will be the final blow. Review this wonderful link to better understand just how determined and specific these plagues were, they pointed to and destroyed the perceived power of the Egyptian gods: http://www.elshaddaiministries.us/messages/notes/5771/PharoasChallenges.pdf
When Moshe comes to Pharaoh early on in this series of events he states, ‘glorify yourself’…in other words, you (Pharaoh)decide and due to your decisions and choices the fate of Egypt will be exacted.
In the text below we see a change, there is a passion which blazes in Moshe and he states this time that Pharaoh’s servants will bow to him (thus, God, Moshe being God’s messenger).
CHORIY (khor-ee)-a burning (intense) anger.
APH (af)-the nose or nostril; (from the rapid breathing in passion ire.
Moshe burns in a rage we can consider has come about for many reasons. He is displeased with the length of the stubborn pride of Pharaoh , that his people have not yet been released. He is heated knowing that these plagues have demolished a flourishing and rich land, crops, plants, animals all creations of HASHEM. Perhaps most of all, he knows that this final plague will mean much death and he is infuriated at the fact that Pharaoh and his heart of stone will cause the consequences that will effect his entire kingdom.
The text below is also explicit as to the contrast God will make between Egypt and Israel.
Exodus 11;5′ Every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on the throne to the firstborn of the maidservant who is behind the millstone and all the firstborn of beast. 6 There shall be a great outcry in Egypt, such as there has never been and such as there shall never be again. 7 But against the Children of Israel, no dog shall whet its tongue, against neither man nor beast, so that you shall know that HASHEM will have differentiated between Egypt and Israel.’ 8 Then all these servants of yours will come down to me and bow to me, saying, ‘Leave- you and the entire people that follows you.’ After that, I will leave!” And he left Pharaoh’s presence in a burning(CHORIY) anger(APH).
I Samuel 2;2 There is none as holy as HASHEM, for there is none beside You, and there is no Rock like our God. 3 Do not abound in speaking arrogance upon arrogance, let not haughtiness come from your mouth; for HASHEM is the God of thoughts, and [men’s] deeds are accounted by Him. 4 The bow of the mighty is broken, while the foundering are girded with strength. 5 The sated ones are hired out for bread, while the hungry ones cease to be so; while the barren woman bears seven, the one with many children becomes bereft. 6 HASHEM brings death and gives life, He lowers to the grave and raises up.
–The other group that the Lord will cause to know Him is His very own people. Just as much as He wanted to discredit the idols and shame the idolaters, He desires for the people He loves to know that He exists and is in control. He wants them to understand that in serving Him they will attach themselves to the Almighty King who causes death but restores life and makes salvation sprout… and they will love and fear Him as is seemly. They will teach these things to their children and His heritage will continue, His will and word shall be passed along as treasure to the generations to follow.
Exodus 10;1 HASHEM said to Moses, “Come to Pharaoh, for I have made his heart and the heart of his servants stubborn so that I can put these signs of Mine in his midst; 2 and so that you may relate in the ears of your son and your son’s son that I made a mockery of Egypt and My signs I placed among them- that you may know that I am HASHEM.
Isaiah 52; 3 For thus said HASHEM: For naught were you sold, and without money will you be redeemed. 4 For thus said my Lord, HASHEM/ELOHIM: As for Egypt, My people went down originally to sojourn there. But Assyria oppressed them without justification; 5 so now, why should I [remain] here?- the word of HASHEM- where My people was taken for naught? Their rulers glorify themselves- the word of HASHEM- and constantly, all day, My Name is blasphemed. 6 Therefore, My people shall know My Name- therefore, on that day, that it is I Who speaks, here I am!
Exodus 10;3 Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh and said to him, “So that HASHEM, God of the Hebrews: Until when will you refuse to be humbled before Me? Send out My people that they may serve Me! 4 For if you refuse to send forth My people, behold, tomorrow I shall bring a locust-swarm into your border. 5 It will cover the surface of the earth so that one will not be able to see the earth; and it will consume the remaining residue that was left to you by the hail, and it will consume all the trees that grow for you from the field. 6 They will fill your houses and the houses of your servants, and the houses of all Egypt, such as your fathers and your grandfathers have not seen from the day they came onto the earth until this day.” And he turned and left Pharaoh’s presence.
–While one impression is being made on the current generation of Egyptians, the Lord uses the elders of their people as a reference point. From the first Egyptian to this day there has been nothing like what will come with these locust, the death knell, so to speak for Egypt. Without agriculture and crop production the nation will fall. Death will be Egypt’s inheritance, yet for His people God has a very determined legacy which involves each child. From the inception of the ideals of God related to the Jewish people to today there has been one factor which has never changed: [Deuteronomy 6;4 Hear O Israel: HASHEM is our God, HASHEM is the One and Only. 5 You shall love HASHEM, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your resources. 6 And these matters that I command you today shall be upon your heart. 7 You shall teach them thoroughly to your children and you shall speak of them while you sit in your home, while you walk on the way, when you retire and when you arise.] Teach them to your children. This is the very reason HASHEM made covenant with the father of nations, Avraham avinu, in the first place: [Genesis 18;19 For I have loved him, because he commands his children and his household after him that they keep the way of HASHEM, doing charity and justice, in order that HASHEM might then bring upon Abraham that which He had spoken of him.] because God knew he would walk in and teach his children and whole household about God’s ways.
Exodus 10;7 Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long will this be a snare for us? Send out the men that they may serve HASHEM, their God! Do you not yet know that Egypt is lost?” 8 So Moses and Aaron were returned to Pharaoh and he said to them, “Go and serve HASHEM, your God; which ones are going?” 9 Moses said, “With our youngsters and with our elders shall we go; with our sons and with our daughters, with our flock and with our cattle shall we go, because it is a festival of HASHEM for us.” 10 He said to them, “So be HASHEM with you as I will send you forth with your children! Look- the evil intent is opposite your faces. 11 Not so; let the men go now. Serve HASHEM, for that is what you seek!” And he drove them out from Pharaoh’s presence.
–Pharaoh and his servants much like the nations around them had little value for human life, namely Jewish human life. The pagan practices of their day involved human, specifically child sacrifice (ex. Molech worship, the people would give their children to the ‘priests’ who would ‘pass their children through the fire’ in order to appease the anger of the false god). Much unlike these nations the Jews centered their worship around honoring the God of life who bestows blessing in the form of fruit from the womb, children. It has always been known that for there to be a “next generation” of worshippers, those who will keep the charge of HASHEM and in turn teach their own children about His ways, His Torah…for this to come about, the children must learn from a young age to appreciate prayer, offering, worship and study. This fact is very clear in Moshe’s answer to Pharaoh’s question, who will worship HASHEM? Moshe answers, EVERYONE. The first group he mentions, the youngsters…yes even the little ones will see their fathers (and mothers) honoring HASHEM and learn to lift Him up as is fitting in His eyes. Moshe speaks further to punctuate this notion, with our sons and with our daughters we will go! The festival of HASHEM is for US: men, women, children, elderly and all those who will attach themselves to the covenant people and facilitate their posterity to become heirs of God’s promises and daily act and function in obedience to His ways, His commands. How will the children learn? From our examples, from being actively involved and constantly encouraged to be a part of the incredible gift and honor it is to be called servant of HASHEM.
II Timothy 3;12 And indeed, all who want to live a godly life united with the Messiah Yeshua will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves. 14 But you, continue in what you have learned and have become convicted of, recalling the people from whom you have learned it; 15 and recalling too how from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which can give you the wisdom that leads to deliverance through trusting in Yeshua the Messiah. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is valuable for teaching the truth, convicting of sin, correcting faults and training in right living; 17 thus anyone who belongs to God may be fully equipped for every good work.
–The Pharaoh can be a type of anti-christ, he wanted to separate the armor and wisdom leading to deliverance, from the people namely from the eyes and hearts of the children who would maintain, advance and promote the Torah (which means teaching, instruction.) of the Lord. He certainly didn’t want them taking part in the Moadim (Set times, and Festivals) of HASHEM. So too the father of lies would like to strip God’s people of the very thing that the Timothy text testifies to as being the key to living right, the Holy Scriptures (which means in context, the Tanach= Torah, prophets and writings) in union with trust in Yeshua. Yes, Yeshua himself tells us that from even the suckling infant the Lord can prepare (KATARTIZO-to complete thoroughly; repair; adjust. KJV-fit; frame; mend; make perfectly join together!!) praises for Himself. Imagine that, and by doing God’s will for us as parents, we can be the coordinators of this wondrous transpiration.
Matthew 21; 14 Blind and lame people came up to him in the Temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the head cohanim and the Torah-teachers was the wonderful things he was doing, and the children crying out in the Temple, “Please deliver us!” to the Son of David, they were furious. 16 They said to him, “Do you hear what they’re saying?” Yeshua replied, “Of course! Haven’t you read, ‘From the mouths of children and infants you have prepared (KATARTIZO) praises from yourself’?
Exodus 12;23 HASHEM will pass through to smite Egypt, and He will see the blood that is on the lintel and the two doorposts; and HASHEM will pass over the entrance and He will not permit the destroyer to enter your homes to smite. 24 You shall observe this matter as a decree for yourself and for your children forever. 25 It shall be that when you come to the land that HASHEM will give you, as He has spoken, you shall observe this service. 26 And it shall be that when your children say to you, ‘What is this service to you?’ 27 You shall say, ‘It is a pesach feast-offering to HASHEM, Who passed over the houses of the Children of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but He saved our households,'” and the people bowed their heads and prostrated themselves. 28 The children of Israel went and did as HASHEM commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they do.
–If the Lord is in your handiwork there is no chance of your failure, what He establishes will stand. If we make our King and His ways the foundation, the walls, the roof and the furnishing of our dwellings…our homes, our families and our hearts He will not permit the destroyer to enter. When He resides, when we invite His presence and His spirit into all aspects of our walk and worship, in the Name of Yeshua He does respond and will abide there…and where His presence exists the darkness of destruction will not be admitted. When we raise our children to trust in this understanding and we ourselves submit in total reliance on the King and His strong hand in our lives, we sharpen our arrows and don impenetrable armor.
Psalm 127;1 If HASHEM will not build the house, in vain do its builders labor on it; if HASHEM will not guard the city, in vain is the watchman vigilant. 2 It is vain for you who rise early, who sit up late, who eat the bread of sorrows; for indeed, He gives His beloved ones restful sleep. 3 Behold! The heritage of HASHEM is children; a reward is the fruit of the womb. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of youth. 5 Praiseworthy is the man who fills his quiver with them; they shall not be shamed, when they speak with enemies in the gate.
–The third ‘group’ that HASHEM wanted to benefit from the exposure of His power over Egypt is the entire rest of the world, that is, all the rest of the people who would hear about the might and wonder of HASHEM, everyone who would be informed about the strength with which HASHEM took the people He chose from the depths of slavery and hopelessness to redemption and a lasting deliverance…that all people would want to come to Know Him. These things are all connected to the charge that Messiah Yeshua gave us when He said we are to make disciples… foremost from within our households, and it follows then that we and they will be enabled to spread the Good News to all those we meet, at all times! [Mark 16;15 Then he said to them, “As you go throughout the world, proclaim the Good News to all creation.; Matthew 28;19 Therefore go and make people from all the nations into talmidim, immersing them into the reality of the Father, the Son and the Ruach HaKodesh, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.] These peoples and nations who will come to Know HASHEM will be welcomed yet there is protocol, they must shed the ways of their former flesh and become obedient to God’s commands. There is no difference in the ‘Torah’ of HASHEM from the garden, to the Ten Utterances at Mount Sinai, to the Commands of our Master Yeshua. There is no separation for what Christians are expected to do and that which Jews must ‘keep’, over and over our King explains…there is one Law, one Torah, one instruction and teaching for all believers, and He desires all men to turn to Him.
Exodus 12;48 When a proselyte sojourns among you he shall make the pesach-offering for HASHEM, each of his males shall be circumcised, and then he may draw near to perform it and he shall be like the native of the land; no uncircumcised male way eat of it. 49 One law shall there be for the native and the proselyte who lives among you.” 50 All the Children of Israel did as HASHEM commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they do.
John 14;12 Yes, indeed! Whoever trusts in me will also do the works I do! Indeed, he will do greater ones, because I am going to the Father. 13 In fact, whatever you ask for in my name, I will do; so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask for something in my name, I will do it. 15 If you love me, you will keep my commands; 16 and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforting Counselor like me, the Spirit of Truth, to be with you forever. 17 The world cannot receive him, because it neither sees nor knows him. You know him, because he is staying with you and will be united with you. 18 I will not leave you orphans- I am coming to you. 19 In just a little while, the world will no longer see me; but you will see me. Because I live, you too will live.
–It is for the hope that the lost sheep throughout the world will hearken to the call of the Shepherd, it is for the sake of the chosen children and torch bearers, all adopted for there is only one natural Son, who will carry out and repeat this call from generation to generation…it is indeed for sinners and wanderers that they might turn from dead objects to the life giving Love of the One and only Creator….for all who were, who are and who will come into this life, to know God. We are to seek His word, invite His Spirit, and worship in the Name of Yeshua. We are all offered the chance to really see the wonders that He is displaying even now and to paint the doorposts of our hearts with the blood of the Lamb. We are all bidden to leave our personal ‘Egypt’ and the control of all powers contrary to the Grace and Mercy and Hope and Light of our Lord and Savior Yeshua. We are free men, women, youngsters and elderly…proselytes and natives. This freedom comes from God Who willingly and deliberately offers it to those who will walk, who will follow Him into the wilderness and trust Him to provide for their every need along the way.
Why did HASHEM free His people from Egypt? Why did He do it in the way He did? What is the result He expects and is seen? The text that ends this week’s Torah Portion of Bo sums it up precisely:
Exodus 13;8 And you shall tell your son on that day saying, ‘It is because of this that HASHEM acted on my behalf when I left Egypt.’ 9 And it shall be for you a sign on your arm and a reminder between your eyes- so that HASHEM’s Torah may be in your mouth- for with a strong hand HASHEM removed you from Egypt.

–Who is like You? Who can fathom You? I praise You eternal King, for each and every moment You draw us nearer while we anxiously await the return of our Savior, for Yeshua do I long! My Father, may we all learn as children, teach with the light of a child and relate all your wonders with the excitement of youth!
I feel the intensity Lord as the days progress, I am brought low to the ground at Your feet as I consider that You more than concern Yourself with our lives…each one, as precious treasures to You. How can it be? I believe it, because You have said it…I ask that in Your grace You prepare an eternal place for the praises of all Your babies to be offered, as is seemly and fitting…please preserve us as we prepare, please lead us as we seek You. In Yeshua’s name, by the power of the Holy Spirit with each and every thing in accordance with Your will alone, amein.
