One House The Blood and The Lamb
Parasha Bo- “Come” thoughts/connections/insights
–The Hebrew word Bo means go or come…God tells Moshe and Aaron to go to Pharaoh but it translates more like come, not just come….but come with Me. God assures them He is with them and they are going together. He is with you right now and will always be with you, He will go before You in ‘battle’ and He will hold your hand in a time of need.
*Exodus 10;1 HASHEM said to Moses, “Come to Pharaoh, for I have made his heart and the heart of his servants stubborn so that I can put these signs of Mine in his midst; 2 and so that you may relate it in the ears of your son and your son’s son that I made a mockery of Egypt and My signs that I placed among them- that you may know that I am HASHEM.
–Why is this text so important to God? Why is so much text spent explaining Pesach and matzos and the death of the firstborn? Because this is a ‘story’ that He requires his people to repeat over and over and over again. That is never be lost or ignored or belittled. Why? It is all about His Lamb. It is all about Yeshua and his atoning death, burial and resurrection. Generation to generation Israel has preserved and recounted this portion and all the instructions it entails for a future time when all men will recognize that God Almighty who simply exhaled and the world came into being…gave EVERYTHING so that we might have the chance to share eternity with Him and glorify Him forever in the eternal Kingdom to come, by the blood of the Lamb.(Matthew 26;17 On the first day for matzah, the talmidim came to Yeshua and asked, “Where do you want us to prepare your Seder?” 18 “Go into the city, to so-and-so,” he replied, “and tell him that the Rabbi says, ‘My time is near, my talmidim and I are celebrating Pesach at your house.'” 19 The talmidim did as Yeshua directed and prepared the Seder. )
*Exodus 12;41 It was at the end of four hundred and thirty years, and it was on that very day that all the legions of HASHEM left the land of Egypt. 42 It is a night of anticipation for HASHEM to take them out of the land of Egypt, this was the night for HASHEM; a protection of all the Children of Israel for their generations.
–Two hundred plus years God has felt estranged along with His children, for the years of slavery God has suffered along with His children, the sorrow and the torment…the pain and the death…He has suffered right along with His children…and now, now! God anticipates! This night is for the Children of Israel to have anxious bellies, high hopes and excitement for the future right? Yes! But the Torah doesn’t tell us about them now. At this pinnacle in time the text reads…’this was the night for HASHEM’! Our Father is actively involved in our lives, we are His and He feels for us deeper than we can ever know! When we are cold He warms us with love, when we have surrendered to sin and given up on ourselves…He continues to fight for the ‘us’ He knows we will become, when the situation seems hopeless and we say ‘impossible’ He brings stretches our His hand on behalf of the helpless and sheds light onto a path to freedom! This picture of God being so thrilled and excited for the Children of Israel causes me to fall more and more in love with God, ever-present….anticipating a future we cant see, and He will lead us there!
*Psalm 82;1…God stands in the Divine assembly, in the midst of judges shall He judge. 2 Until when will you judge lawlessly and favor the presence of the wicked, Selah? 3 Dispense justice for the needy and the orphan; vindicate the poor and impoverished. 4 Rescue the needy and destitute, and deliver them from the hand of the wicked. 5 They do not know nor do they understand, they walk in darkness; all the foundations of the earth collapse.
-How often do we see a person in a role of leader, stubbornly guarding his own pride, viciously standing up for his control to command? Instead of guarding his land and the well fare of his people and instead of viciously standing against injustice and oppression….we see all around us the results of rejecting any notion of a ‘leader’ submitting humbly to the Authority of the Author of Life itself. Even as Moshe and Aaron relate the warnings of God to Pharaoh, plague after plague he becomes hard and cold. Even when his own servants and confidants beg him to come to his senses, he sacrifices all for his own pride.
*Exodus 10; 3 Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh and said to him, “So said HASHEM, God of the Hebrews: Until when will you refuse to be humbled before Me? Send out My people that they may serve Me! 4 For if you refuse to send forth My people behold, tomorrow I shall bring a locust-swarm into your border. 5 It will cover the surface of the earth so that one will not be able to see the earth; and it will consume the remaining residue that was left to you by the hail, and it will consume all the trees that grow for you from the field. 6 They will fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all Egypt, such as your fathers and your grandfathers have not seen from the day they came onto the earth until this day.” And he turned and left Pharaoh’s presence. 7 Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long will this be a snare for us? Send out the men that they may serve HASHEM, their God! Do you not yet know that Egypt is lost?”
–The locust flew in the face of the supposed god of life min…covering the earth with death. Gnawing, gnashing, consuming all the plant life. Interestingly just as God removed every single wild beast upon the subsiding of the fourth plague (in order that no Egyptian make any use of the animal or hide and therefore ‘gain’ from Gods wrath) he ‘hurls’ every single locust (which were considered food which might have been gathered by Egyptians granting some relief for the hunger.) into the Sea of Reeds. Treating His creations who lodge there in the Sea with a feast.
*Mattityahu (Matthew) 3;1 It was in those days the Yochanan (John) the Immerser arrived in the desert of Y’hudah and began proclaiming the message, 2 “Turn from your sins to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near!” 3 This is the man Yesha’yahu was talking about when he said, “The voice of someone crying out: ‘In the desert prepare the way of ADONAI! Make a straight path for him!'” 4 Yochanan wore clothes of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
*Leviticus 11;21 Only this may you eat from among all the flying teeming creatures that walk on four legs: one that has jumping legs above its legs, with which to spring upon the earth.
*Jeremiah 46;23 They will cut down her forest- the word of HASHEM- for they are beyond calculation, for they are more numerous than locusts, and there is no number for them. 24 The daughter of Egypt will be humiliated, delivered into the hand of the Northern people.
*Joel 2;21 Fear not, O land; exult and be glad, for HASHEM has done great [kindness.] 22 Fear not animals of the field, for the dwellings of the wilderness have become covered with grass; for the tree has borne its fruit; the fig tree and the vine have given forth their wealth. 23 Children of Zion, exult and be glad with your God, for he has given you a teacher for righteousness, and he has brought down the rain for you- the early and late rain in the first[ month]. 24 The granaries will be filled with grain, and the vats will overflow with wine and oil. 25 I will repay you for years that the cutting-locust- My great army that I sent among you- consumed. 26 And you will eat, eating and being satisfied, and you will praise the name of HASHEM your God who has acted wondrously with you; and My people will not be ashamed evermore. 27 Then you will know that in the midst of Israel am I , and that I am HASHEM your God, there is none other; and My people will not be ashamed evermore.
–The darkness. All over Egypt, it was debilitating. In Goshen, there was light. We have the light living in us, we can magnify it by acting as our Teacher did…by doing as God instructs and mimicking as best as possible the walk of Yeshua we can fuel this light…making it brighter, illuminating the dark world we live in.
*Exodus 10;21 HASHEM said to Moses, “Stretch forth your hand toward the heavens, and there shall be darkness upon the land of Egypt, and the darkness will be tangible.”
*Proverbs 18;10 The Name of HASHEM is a tower of strength; through it a righteous person will race and be strong. 11 The treasure of a wealthy person is his city of strength, and like a high wall in his chambers. 12 Prior to [his] destruction a man’s heart grows haughty; but prior to honor there is humility. 13 He who answers before he has heard, it will be foolishness and humiliation for him. 14 A man’s spirit will sustain [him in] his sickness; but who can support a broken spirit? 15 An understanding heart will acquire knowledge, but the ear of the wise must seek wisdom. 16 A man’s gift broadens [access] for him and leads him before the great.
–Moses has approached Pharaoh before, but there is something different this time. First off we should recognize that Pharaoh is mocking HASHEM and Moshe with this false flattery, begging for forgiveness? Apologizing for sinning?? I find it very hard to swallow. Why? Look at the ‘track record’…offense after offense, then when relief arrives another refusal to keep his own word. Pharaoh’s haughty heart is in stark contrast to the humility of Moshe whom at first didn’t even think he was worthy of this mission…who was wary of his capability to even go before Pharaoh with this vast request, God has been Moshe’s tower of strength and has given him confidence in this court of the ‘great’. Moshe now speaks with authority as the messenger of God Almighty and shepherd who will lead his people out of Egypt.
*Exodus 10;16 Pharaoh hastened to summon Moses and Aaron and he said, “I have sinned to HASHEM, your God, and to you. 17 And now, please forgive my sin just this time, and entreat HASHEM, your God, that He remove from me only this death. ”
25 Moses said, “Even you will place in our hands feast-offerings and burnt-offerings, and we shall offer them to HASHEM our God. 26 And our livestock, as well, will go with us- not a hoof will be left-
27 HASHEM strengthened the heart of Pharaoh and he did not wish to send them out. 28 Pharaoh said to him, “Go from me! Beware- do not see my face any more, for on the day you see my face you shall die!”
29 Moses said, “You have spoken correctly. I shall never see your face again.”
*Isaiah 44; 18 They do not know and they do not understand; for their eyes are smeared, [prevented] from seeing and their hearts from comprehending. 19 He does not take it to his heart; [he has] neither wisdom nor insight to say, ‘I have burned half of it in the fire and I have baked bread on its coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the remainder an abomination?
*Exodus 11; 2 Please speak in the ears of the people: Let each man request of his fellow and each woman from her fellow silver vessels and gold vessels .” 3 HASHEM granted the people favor in the eyes of Egypt; moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the eyes of the servants of Pharaoh and in the eyes of the people.
–What is the meaning of this request? One thing that delights me is to imagine Aveinu Malkeinu, our Father our King already relishing the idea of His children constructing a Mishkan (Tabernacle) where He can rest there with them! This kind instruction to make a request of their soon to be ex-captors will not only become a means to create the very place where the Glory will fall and ‘dwell’ amongst the Children of Israel…but this is restitution and payment. Payment for what? For years of body crushing hard labor done without compensation and restitution for abuses and terrible, unimaginable bereavements. Nothing could ever mend the terror of children being built into the structures along with mortar and mud, the oppression the Children of Israel experienced is unspeakable….it repeated itself during the holocaust and as we know, what happened to our forefathers will again happen. (Isaiah 46;10 From the beginning I foretell the outcome; and from earlier times, what has not yet been; [but] I say and My plan will stand, and I will carry out My every desire.) I can’t help but think about another request made in the court of another king. This request was not for silver or gold but for the very lives of herself and her people! Hadassah risked death, approached the king and threw herself into the Merciful hands of the Almighty.
*Esther 5;6 The king said to Esther during the wine feast, “What is your request? It shall be granted you. And what is your petition? [Even if it be] until half the kingdom, it shall be fulfilled.” 7 So Esther responded and said, “My request and my petition: 8 If I have found favor in the king’s eyes, and if it pleases the king to grant my request and to fulfill my petition, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and tomorrow I shall fulfill the king’s word.
7; 3 So Queen Esther responded and said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be granted to me as my request and my people as my petition. 4 For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain and to be exterminated. Had we been sold as slaves and maidservants, I would have kept quiet, for the adversary is not worthy of the king’s damage.” 5 Thereupon, King Ahasuerus exclaimed and said to Queen Esther, “Who is this? Where is the one who dared to do so?” 6 And Esther said, ” A man who is an adversary and an enemy! This wicked Haman!” Haman trembled in terror before the king and queen.
—God gives us a cache of weaponry, tools and armor. So too has He warned us in advance what is to come and what He expects of us. ( 2 Peter 3;17 But you, dear friends, since you know this in advance, guard yourselves; so that you will not be led away by the errors of the wicked and fall from your own secure position. 18 And keep growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Deliverer, Yeshua the Messiah . To him be the glory, both now and forever! Amen.) We have no excuses and no defense before a Just Judge, all we can ask is that He be merciful on our generation and this nation. Pharaoh still has neither submitted to humble himself before God, fulfill his own words nor trembled before the Almighty…the final plague is final for a reason.
*Exodus 4;22 You shall say to Pharaoh, ‘So said HASHEM, My firstborn son is Israel. 23 So I say to you, Send out My son that he may serve Me- but you have refused to send him out; behold, I shall kill your firstborn son.'”
*Exodus 11;4 Moses said, “So said HASHEM, ‘At about midnight I shall go out in the midst of Egypt. 5 Every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the maidservant who is behind the millstone and all the firstborn of beast. 6 There shall be a great outcry in the entire land of Egypt, such as there has never been and such as there shall never be again. 7 But against all the Children of Israel, no dog shall whet its tongue, against neither man nor beast, so that you will know that HASHEM will have differentiated between Egypt and Israel.’
*Colossians 1;14 It is through His Son that we have redemption- that is, our sins have been forgiven. 15 he is the visible image of the invisible God. He is supreme over all on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, lordships, rulers or authorities- they have all been created through him and for him. 17 He existed before all things, and he holds all things together. 18 Also he is the head of the Body, the Messianic Community- he is the beginning the firstborn from the dead, so that he might hold first place in everything.
*Exodus 11;1 HASHEM said to Moses, “One more plague shall I bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt; after that he shall send you forth from here. When he sends forth, it shall be complete- he shall drive you out of here.
*Ya-akov (James) 1; 4 But let perseverance do its complete work; so that you may be complete and whole, lacking in nothing.
*John 16; 22 So you indeed feel grief now, but I am going to see you again. Then your hearts will be full of joy, and no one will take your joy away from you. 23 When that day comes, you won’t ask anything of me! Yes, indeed! I tell you that whatever you ask from the Father, He will give you in my name. 24 Till now you haven’t asked for anything in my name. Keep asking and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
*Exodus 12;23 HASHEM will pass through to smite Egypt, and He will see the blood that is on the lintel and the two doorposts; and HASHEM will pass over the entrance and He will not permit the destroyer to enter your homes to smite. 24 You shall observe this matter as a decree for yourself and for your children forever.
–Forever. There are so many (all) words of the Father that I trust and believe are sure as I breathe in and out, and as sure as one day I will return to the dust…sure as heaven and earth were created by the Creator, sure as His love is true, when He says Forever, Eternal, Unbreachable…that means Forever, Eternal, Unbreachable! When the Children of Israel observe the commands of the Pesach lamb and to paint the doorposts and lintel with its blood it is not only as a sign to the Egyptians (who have been smelling hundreds of thousands of their main god..the ram ammon-ra roasting!) that there is One God and He his people have marked their dwellings for deliverance, not only as a sign for the Children of Israel forever as they recount these events that it is the blood of the Lamb that covers them and saves them from death and the destroyer, but as a sign that it is God Who determines Who is His and Whom has charge over all forces and all things…when obedient to His instructions (no matter how departed we can become from understanding of His purposes) with trust…He will not PERMIT the destroyer to enter your ‘house’ to smite.
He will not PERMIT the destroyer, God is the One in control…I pray that we will all mark our lives and the gateways of our hearts with the sign of Gods deliverance and redemption…the blood of the Lamb, so that all can see it and glorify Him!
*Mark 5;9 Yeshua asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he answered, “there are so many of us”; 10 and he kept begging Yeshua not to send them out of that region. 11 Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding near the hill, 12 and the unclean spirits begged him, “Send us to the pigs, sp we can go into them.” 13 Yeshua gave them permission. They came out and entered the pigs; and the herd, numbering around two thousand, rushed down the hillside into the lake and were drowned. 14 The swineherds fled and told it in the town and the surrounding country, and the people went to see what had happened. 15 They came to Yeshua and saw the man who had had the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were frightened. 16 Those who had seen it told what had happened to the man controlled by demons and to the pigs; 17 and the people began begging Yeshua to leave their district. 18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demonized begged him to be allowed to go with him. 19 But Yeshua would not permit it. Instead he said to him, “Go home to your people, and tell them how much ADONAI in his mercy has done for you.” 20 He went off and began proclaiming in the Ten Towns how much Yeshua had done for him, and everyone was amazed.
–In the same way God wont PERMIT the destroyer to enter the homes of the Children of Israel marked with the blood, we read in Mark about Yeshua…in command, in authority, giving permission to the demon spirits to enter the pigs. Yeshua also does not PERMIT the man who had been healed to come with him. I can imagine how very much this man would have longed to be near Yeshua and to serve him. But just as Yeshua instructs the man that he has a more important ‘job’ and purpose for him at that time…we must have our hearts open to the purposes and roles God has designed for us, be ready to heed if the path we are headed on and longing for may not be quite what God had in ‘mind’ and be ready to be obedient and serve our purpose…which should be what Gods design for our lives.
*Exodus 12;33 Egypt imposed itself strongly upon the people to hasten to send them out of the land, for they said, “We are all dying!” 34The people picked up its dough before it could become leavened, their leftovers bound up in their garments upon their shoulders. 35 The Children of Israel carried out the word of Moses; they requested from the Egyptians silver vessels, gold vessels and garments. 36 HASHEM gave the people favor in the yes of the Egyptians and they granted their request- so they emptied Egypt.
*Exodus 3;14 HASHEM answered Moses, “I Shall Be As I Shall Be.” And He said, “So shall you say to the Children of Israel, ‘I Shall Be has sent me to you.;” 15 God said further to Moses, “SO shall you say to the Children of Israel. ‘HASHEM, the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has dispatched me to you. This is My Name forever, this is My remembrance from generation to generation.’
–I Shall Be As I Shall Be; another translation is I Am as I Am. Whatever translation I have read I hear the same thing! God does not change, He has not changed, He will not change. As our lives shift, morph and wander…whatever we need, if we trust in His Eternal Almighty Sure and Unchanging attributes He will be whatever we need! ” I will be:” your father, your mother, your siblings, your love, your friend, your helper, your comforter, your companion…..”I will be:” EVERYTHING you need!
*Exodus 12;43 HASHEM spoke to Moses and Aaron, ‘This is the decree of the pesach-offering: no alienated person may eat from it. 44 Every slave of a man, who was bought for money, you shall circumcise him; then he may eat of it. 45 A sojourner and a hired laborer may not eat it. 46 In one house shall it be eaten; you shall not remove any of the meat from the house to the outside, and you shall not break a bone in it. 47 The entire assembly of Israel shall perform it. 48 When a proselyte sojourns among you he shall make the pesach-offering for HASHEM, each of his males shall be circumcised, and then he may draw near to perform it and he shall be like the native of the land; no uncircumcised male may eat of it. 49 One law shall there be for the native and the proselyte who lives among you.”
–Read the text above carefully. Amazing! If one is just passing through, not going to linger, contribute to the ‘house’ they are not to eat of it. If one is just there to provide a service and get their reward and depart from the ‘house’ they are not to eat of it. If one desires to connect themselves with the ‘house’ and take ton the physical sign of the very covenant, the covenant of the forefathers… by which God is remembering and redeeming Israel from this captivity and the same promises for which He sent his own spotless Lamb Yeshua to return His people (all of them) to him…they may eat of it….in ONE house. Sacred flesh, not to be removed from the ‘house’. Not to be left over into the morning. Without a broken bone.
Beautiful! God beckons….if you are willing to bind yourself to His chosen people, the natural tree, He will graft you in and says you ‘may draw near’…He wants us to draw near! Thus He gave ONE law, ONE Eternal Torah, ONE well of Living Water, ONE Messiah Yeshua and if we attach ourselves to these things as ONE, under ONE unchanging Authority we will be able to celebrate one wonderful day as ONE House in the Lord!
*John 15;9 “Just as my Father has loved me, I too have loved you; so stay in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will stay in my love- just as I have kept my Father’s commands and stay in His love. 11 I have said this to you so that my joy may be in you, and your joy be complete.
*Psalm 51;4 Abundantly cleanse me from my iniquity, and from my sin purify me. 5 For I recognize my transgressions, and my sin is before me always. 6 Against You alone did I sin, and that which is evil in Your eyes did I do; therefore, You are justified when You speak, and faultless when You judge. 7 Behold, in iniquity was I fashioned, and in sin did my mother conceive me. 8 Behold, the truth which You desire is in the concealed parts, and in the covered part is the wisdom that You teach me. 9 Purge me of sin with hyssop and I shall be pure, cleanse me and I shall be whiter than snow. 10 Make me hear joy and gladness, may the bones that You crushed exult. 11 Hide Your face from my sins, and erase all of my iniquities. 12 Create a pure heart for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me. 13 Cast me not away from Your Presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. 14 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation{Yeshua}, and with a generous spirit sustain me.
–Yeshua you are my joy, I will pass these treasures on to my children with all the strength and life you have given me! I will guard them and declare them with all the breath you have placed in my being! Touch my mouth and teach me how to talk, guide my feet and light the path you want me to go down. Come with me always, never leave me I need you so badly! Thank you for never giving up on me! Thank You Almighty for showing us from the very first word of the very first word of the Gospel-Good News in Bereshit- Genesis that You will illuminate our hearts in Your word if we search and keep searching, with the entire counsel of Your Living word!! Thank You Thank You My King for the Treasure You have planted among us….
…Blessed are You Lord our God Creator and King of the Universe, You alone have planted among us life eternal. Blessed are You HASHEM our God gracious giver of the Torah.
In Yeshua’s name I ask that you use my life and this household for Your magnification and Glory! Amein.
